First Steps: Introduction to Meditation
In our Introduction to Meditation courses you will find out how and why meditation works on both body and mind with the latest in neuro-scientific research understandings so you too can easily and quickly learn to:
- Relax the body and de-stress the mind
- Find greater clarity of mind and focus in all you do
- Improve your ability to make sound decisions
- Deliberately cultivate happiness as a learned skill
- Take a more strategic approach to life
- Develop a more compassionate, kind and loving nature
- Manage conflict with less distress and fewer confrontations
- Apply your favorite techniques easily whenever you need to throughout your busy day
- Improve your ability to manage continuing health problems including severe physical pain
- Fast track your ability to anticipate and heal health problems by listening to your body
- Become more in tune with your environment, family and friends
- Resolve longstanding emotional difficulties by becoming more self-accepting and appreciative of your own unique abilities
- Enjoy meditation for the sheer pleasure of it and not least…..
- Get a good night's sleep.
In each class you will practise two meditations; the first a ‘bodywork’ practice to relax and calm the mind and then a fresh technique — ‘loving kindness’, ‘mantra’, ‘anxieties release’, ‘visual’, ‘breath’ and ‘physical healing’ meditations – so you can learn and practise different meditations to your own individual tastes and talents. With the first-up ‘bodywork’ meditation you will notice how quickly regular practice of one technique becomes easy, effective and pleasurable as you become more skilled in its use.
Course includes weekly course materials and the guided meditation CD First Steps in the Journey to Peace of Mind by Sydney Meditation Centre Director and course instructor, Kevin Hume.
This course is incredibly useful for assisting with techniques to manage anxiety and achieving a more positive outlook. Course structure excellent. Just what I had hoped for!
Ruth Nocka, Lawyer, Sydney CBD
Extremely appropriate for my needs with good health as a focus. Practical – and humorous – approach by Kevin. Fantastic instruction. Best $200 I’ve ever spent. Do it sooner than later!
Justine Green Project Manager Sydney University, Bondi Junction
In fifteen years of meditation Kevin is one of the best teachers I've come across. Highly recommended.

More Steps: Intermediate Meditation
If you enjoyed our Introduction to Meditation course then you can deepen your meditation pleasure with some old favourites as well as new techniques — playing with energy movement, reviving when tired and relaxing when stressed, sampling music and candlelight and more sensory delights. The course focuses also on further developing emotional literacy and the cultivation of positive mind states and a more sophisticated use of sound, visualisations and body sensations.

I’m amazed actually. I became so much more engaged with the More Steps course than I ever expected as my ability to focus and become really aware deepened so quickly. The booklist is superb for further study. Such a great course!
Kate McKenzie, Lawyer, Sydney
I’m becoming much more aware of how I react emotionally at work and otherwise in my life. And this course gave me ways of doing this. I find I’m becoming much more open to what’s going on around me and the way emotional responses can get in the way. And how to change those conditioned reactions. Immensely enjoyable.
