What is meditation?
MEDITATION is simply an easy-to-learn technique for relaxing the body and calming the mind. There are three key principles to be applied each time you meditate.
- Be in the present letting all concerns about past and future fade into the background
- Shift from thinking into sensing
- Focus on just one thing in the foreground of your consciousness
When you focus on just one thing, something remarkable happens. You will notice your mind starting to chatter frantically, trying to distract you into a thousand and one different intriguing thoughts and away from your point of focus.
Meditation is about ignoring these seductive distractions of the moment to return to your focus without regret or remorse each time your mind drifts off, as it will. Simply return to focus for as long as you can and return again whenever you notice those thoughts taking you away from focus. Persist with your focus and gradually you will find your body relaxes and your mind begins to calm and clear. That is all meditation IS.
