What is meditation?
Meditation Traditions
Meditation puts you in touch with your senses and with your body improving your health and general sense of well-being. It's good for your health and for your emotional life as Western scientists and medical researchers are now finding as they turn on to the benefits of meditation.
Meditation, though finding a huge popular following in industrialized nations, is associated still for many with ancient contemplative or spiritual traditions. The many forms of Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Jewish Cabalism, Sufism, and indeed Christian mysticism, all have drawn upon the practice of meditation and the insights which can be derived from it. Sufi and Christian mysticism often use repeated phrases of a devotional nature; Buddhists often meditate just on the breath, the body or on an object. Some of these meditative techniques are included in Kevin Hume's meditation courses because they are first and foremost practical and effective means of relaxing the body and achieving peace of mind in the midst of our high-stress modern lives. On Kevin's CD 1 Breath of Life and Loving Kindness are Buddhist meditations; whilst Bodywork meditation comes from Hindu yogic traditions.
‘My life had become a rolling series of crises personally and professionally. Something had to change. Meditation's shifted the way I see things. I'm more go-with the-flow and the crises are shrinking in impact. Having a calm centre which meditation gives means I feel I can navigate all the storms to safe harbor!'
